In Riobamba city from Ecuador, for more than thirty years solid urban waste was placed in an open dump, without gas and leachate control. 2016, the landfill technically closed emerging cell with characteristics of a sanitary built nearby. The Environmental Health Hygiene Management Department Municipal Decentralized Autonomous Government monitors generation, recording 19.24 m3/day young (Type I) 5.78 mature III) old landfill. two types leachates are mixed main collection pipe that reaches storage pool receives 25.02 m3/day. results physical-chemical analysis determine values parameters outside permissible limits. Turbidity is >1000 NTU (Nephelometric Unit), concentration suspended solids 1200 mg. L-1 iron 135.85 L-1. Calcium (1223 L-1) manganese (356.15 were also evaluated, as these minerals related to 16,000 hardness. For treatment leachate, phases proposed: a) physical by downward filtration granular bed reduce concentrations solids, b) chemical oxidation using sodium hypochlorite. Laboratory showed 96.40% decrease solids. stabilized at 65 UTN. Iron, calcium, decreased 95.60%, 96.28%, 50.60%, respectively.
